I know most people know them as a one-hit wonder from the 90s, and that's that for them. I have this little special place for Marcy Playground, though, because I strongly associate them with a very, ah, turbulent (but terrifically so) time in my life. And there is, I don't know, something about John Wozniak's voice, and the straightforward simplicity about most of the songs, even the faster, upbeat ones, that just is soothing in its total, utter expectedness. I was glad to hear about the new album, especially now, and from the couple of new songs I've managed to hear off of it, it looks like nothing much has changed. Which is good. Lately, I sometimes just want to know exactly where I am going to end up before I even start out.
With no surprises.
Good Times (live)- Marcy Playground
Off their new album slated for release on July 7th.
This is a good example of the straightforward predictability that works for them. Or works for me, if you want to look at it that way. The first one you hear is the 'ole time' version of the song, that's included as a hidden track on the album.
