To put it baldly*

(Hey, just thank your stars I didn't go for 'The Bald and the Beautiful' or 'Go baldly where no man has gone before', okay?)

Today's post is brought to you by the letter D. Really. You see, the kid has to take in something for show and tell each week that has to do with the letter of the week, and next week's letter is D. After the usual flip-flopping+ he finally spotted a much loved figure on the bookshelf and said, " Mommy, can I take the
Da Da man?" (See second 18.)

If my son is ever mocked for his musical tastes, it is entirely my fault. Because, as always, mention of the Da Da man meant a singing a few bars...which pretty much turned into the whole song (not that there is much to it).

Da Da Da - Trio

The kid might have avoided permanent damage if I had stopped there. But I can't be the only person who feels that the previous song should be immediately followed up by this?

I'm Too Sexy - Right Said Fred

And, well, after that there was nothing left to do but start singing a few bars of this now, was there?

I Wish - Skee-Lo

+If you're like me, you find stories about other people's kids about as enchanting as wilted spinach, which is why I'm putting this at the end so you can skip it, if you like. Anyway, to get an idea of what we went through until we got to the final decision (I hope), here's a sampling of what he had decided on and then discarded (see? D's everywhere): Dubai ("No, I want something different. That country is not my favorite. My favorite is Yemen!" This courtesy of me doing my one and only Chandler Bing imitation in front of him, several times); DVD ("But it has to be a DVD starting with D." "Well, DVD starts with D itself." "NOOOO...that says 'Mary Poppins'. That is not a D!"); Dork (Um, so maybe he overheard me ripping my coworker a new one yesterday...); Dishwasher ("You mean a picture?" "No, I want Daddy to take it out and carry it." Which naturally led to...); and Daddy. I kind of was pulling for that last one, and seeing L put out on display on the show and tell mat for everyone to touch and poke etc. Maybe I can still get him to change his mind.
