Old Faithfull

I am in a really foul mood tonight, although it is mostly directed inward and internally at myself, than outward and externally at anyone, for which I am sure everyone, but especially my loved ones, are thankful. I seem to have acquired a rather healthy dose of misanthropy over the last 48 hours and so, really, I am definitely not one for the charm schools tonight.

I'd try and minimize the ugly mood by indulging in a little Johnnie Walker*, but these few days are a series of ones that I have to stay sober in case I am needed to drive my mom somewhere--read: the hospital--at a moment's notice, so abstain I must although it hurts.

But hey, if I can't drink whiskey, I can think about it, right? And since my mood is perfect for a little Marianne--that wonderful voice that can both empathize with my mood and somehow manage to lift it at the same time--this seems quite appropriate, although it is still from the time when she was (or was being portrayed as) a fresh-faced ingenue, versus an experienced, aging prima donna.

(I must profess my love for youtube yet again. Seriously, finding something like this is like winning the lotto far as I am concerned, since I would have had no access to the actual film when it finally showed.)

Here is the Marianne I really love, though, performing a song originally written by Tom Waits for her. The voice, the voice, the voice. Need I say more?

(By the way, a brandy may be more appropriate with this one!)

*As an aside, in our family, we're loyal to three brands: Teacher's, Bell's (Extra Special), and, of course, Johnnie Walker (Black Label. I have one Blue Label I've bought specifically to open for my parents' 45th anniversary, if my dad is up to it.)
