I'd already planned out my next post and everything, thanks to a little prompt I got earlier in the day, but then, thanks to my Amazon e-mail prompter for their monthly $5 albums, I ended up buying Score! 20 Years Of Merge Records: The Covers! (which I would have bought even if most of the artists and songs being covered didn't catch my eye, anyway. I mean, pass a five dollar album of covers? How can I?!) and as soon as I got to this song, I knew I had to share. There's a little something reminiscent of the Beautiful South sound about this (which makes sense, seeing it's Tracey Thorn. Maybe it should really be called the Hull sound, you know...) and, besides that, these two together are simply too good not to share right away. Plus, this song is one I like very much lyrically and is perfect if you are making an anniversary mix for someone (if they don't get the fun in having this on such a mix, I suggest you dump the recipient...)
Yeah, Oh Yeah (cover) - Tracey Thorn and Jens Lekman
Yeah, Oh Yeah - The Magnetic Fields
(I'll say it with no remorse, since I am not a TMF fanatic--the cover is so much better)

It's just a shit producing/engineering job (the TMF version). That gimmick pretty much never works.
