Voices carry

A few days ago, I heard about half of this song on XPN while driving home and was really taken by it. I didn't have a chance to look it up until today, even though I'd been thinking about it, because a certain part of it was really stuck in my head, a hurried phrase that would jump in and out randomly, with a comfortable familiarity that I took to mean likability.

That I mistook, I should really say, because I found the playback such a...letdown, especially when I realized almost immediately why that particular part of the song had been on repeat and why it was so familiar and likable (hint: Roy Orbison. Apparently, my brain took the harmony and made an [il]logical leap of associating a great song with a blah one subconsciously. Sometimes, I don't like my brain very much).

Did I mention I was coming back from a root canal when I first heard the song?

However, there is a happy ending. In looking up the original, I came across what is possibly the best way this song could've been interpreted. So, something redeemable, after all.
