Ladies sing the blues

It may not be the song she's best loved for, but it's the song I've always loved her for. Maybe someday I'll tell the little story that goes with it, but not right tonight.

'Tain't Nobody's Business If I Do - Bessie Smith

***

I can't mention Bessie Smith without mentioning Alberta Hunter, who not only wrote what was to become one of Bessie's biggest hits, but who, come to find out, is disputed as having possibly recorded the song above before Bessie did. We know no one loves a cover story better than I do.

I can't do justice to how amazing this is on so many levels. Just enjoy it.
