POW 012109 - Bleh

Bleh is blah with a giant dose of ennui.

I'm not surprised that after a [ more than usual] stressful week, followed by a most excellent long weekend that had me--dare I say it?--actually feeling content to the gills, I'm now feeling very...bleh. I've been starting at this screen for ten minutes and I cannot recall a single one of my brilliant thoughts that I meant to impart, cleverly interjected with well place musical choices.

Instead, you get a cop out: a selection of songs from the CDs I bought in my under 10 minutes shopping spree at the local used CD store. Here we go.

(Note: I am picking random songs; I haven't listened to all the CDs all the way through...)

***

Okay, so I am not fond of Zoey Deschanel as an actress--I didn't really mention it when I posted the video of her singing in the movie Elf, but she really is one of those single expression at a time--with the time sometimes stretching over one and then even several scenes--chicks. Which works nicely for her sister, when I've caught her program (Emily Deschanel, of the TV series Bones) because of the role, but makes Zoey look like a halfwit most times. She has a nice voice and I'd read some good reviews of her album so I picked it up.

Black Hole - She & Him (from the album Volume One)

I am pretty sure I learned of the next group a couple of years ago, because I'd read about them on someone else's blog and how they'd liked their live performance; I listened to a few songs, but never bought an entire album.

Where Have all the Rudeboys Gone? - Ted Leo & The Pharmacists (from the album Hearts of Oak)

I first went to Ivy because of Adam Schlesinger, but stayed for Dominique Durand. I bought a copy of this when it first came out, lent it out and never got it back.

This is the Day - Ivy (from the album Apartment Life)

I really only like a couple of songs by Inara George, but I thought, what the hey, maybe I'll like more with her as a duo.

La la la - The Bird and The Bee (from the album The Bird and the Bee)

I mostly like Robyn Hitchcock and The Egyptians' release songs, but I liked the title of this album so I got it.

Certainly Clickot - Robyn Hitchcock (this version from the album Eye)

Actually, I bought the album Black Snake Diamond Role, which also has a version of this song, but I can't find a single song from that on youtube (not a lot of RH album versions, in general), so this is what you get.
