On being inappropriate

(The inspiration for this post came from all that talk of lewdness and lasciviousness and being a teenager in the '80s, that triggered a whole separate train of thought all the while I was writing the original post.)

When certain folk reacted to Britney's video debut as if Sodom and Gomorrah had risen from the ashes, I knew they couldn't have been watching videos in the '80s. Because before there was Britney? There was Billy:

Rock the Cradle of Love - Billy Idol

And in the interest of equal opportunity (well, indirectly!), there was also Eddie and Dave and Alex and Michael

Hot for Teacher - Van Halen

And most definitely there was Danny (hee, the one comment "this has been 'pedo bear' approved"*)

Little Girls - Oingo Boingo

(oh, and obviously that immediately brings to mind the mother (or father?) of them all and possibly the creepiest song ever:)

Maybe Britney just needed was some pointers from her [older and wiser] sisters on how to work that girl power angle differently...

...but that's a post for another time.

*If that offends you or you don't know why I am going hee, then you really don't get it...or me.

Sadly most of my memories of lasciviousness are lost in the brimstone haze of Catholic guilt.
How I wish I had grown up Buddhist instead! Anything non-deist would have done.
