First official purchase of the year. It was rather appropriate for how the year started, yesterday.
Runs in the family - Amanda Palmer
***
Given that my official new year isn't until March, my family doesn't really have any particular traditions for this adopted one. However, my sister and have one that started the year I got married, when we were talking over our lives, as it were back then, a week or so before the new year, and were kind of alternately amused and amazed at ourselves that I had ended up married and she had ended up getting a dog for my niece the previous year--two things that, had we been betting people, we'd've bet a million to one against. As we were mentally shaking our heads over it all (mostly over the dog situation; you'd have to know my sister to understand how entirely unexpected this particular turn of event was), she said, in all seriousness, "I ask you, how did I get here?" to which I could only respond, "Same as it ever was!"
So first thing that following New Year's Day? We both left messages on each other's machines with the song. (People say we sound and act excatly like twins, even though we are eight years apart. They aren't far off, when it comes to what we both find entertaining and humorous.) Now, it's like a race for who can leave it first without the other one catching on.
It's a sibling thing.
