Blue

I think this is going to be the week of little snippet posts.

I started humming the song below election night, as a response to the returns. In retrospect, though, it's really a song that anyone, regardless of party affiliation or their reaction to the results, could've hummed that night and all last week, because of the simple versatility of the title and lyrics.

I'm still humming it, by the way, but now mostly because I am back to work tomorrow after an FMLA based absence of a few weeks. I made the horrible mistake of firing up the work PC to see in how bad a shape the backlog of e-mails and requests were (uuughh), and to get a lay of the land for the next two weeks (uuuughhhh), and within 20 minutes, I had agita, a headache, and a neck spasm all at the same--in other words, business as usual. I think when you start to revile your own job sincerely, it's time to think about moving on.

P.S. I should mention that this song is verboten in our household, at least to play out loud, because over the period of several months while I was trying to finish up my MS requirements, I would play this on repeat for an hour at a time while writing or researching; it had the weirdest calming effect on me. Not so much on the other person in house, who used the word fuck for the second time ever since I'd met him several years before, when it finally got to be to be top much and asked me to "stop playing the fucking song". I'm mean, but I'm not sadistic, so I did. (Besides, I was tired of it myself, anyway, and I was mostly done with my research. Hah.)
