A to the B to the B to the A

I don't consider myself a music aficionado (da?) at all. I have extreme affection for music, and I think I have a fairly good knowledge of the more popular music, current or otherwise; occasionally, I can pull out a rare reference here or there and geek with the best of them. I don't, however, hold or want to attempt to hold a candle to all the indie label lovers, or the dedicated followers of genres and sub genres, and all the general die-hard music luh-vers.

I just like to enjoy what I enjoy, maybe find out a little more about what I am listening to when the mood strikes. I frankly do not care nor have any desire to impress anyone with my choice of music. I listen to satisfy my own preferences, not to cater to someone else's. Which is really applicable to most, if not all, aspects of my life, but that is neither here nor there.

I like what I like. It's that's easy.

There is a four letter word you're very unlikely to hear willingly from many people who are otherwise defining their musical taste: ABBA. I am not many people. I love ABBA unabashedly and I think I would even if they hadn't been such an integral part of my childhood's music.

Above and beyond anything else, this first song will forever be 'the ABBA song' to me. While it's message may have not been appropriate for my 8 year old self, it was just the right song to sing with my best friend, as we posed and danced and performed, on and around and and off her bunk bed. Ellie, I hope wherever you are, you'll still remember to throw back your head, shimmy hard, and sing as loud as you can when this comes on.

Gimme, gimme, gimme:

Similarly to another song that is also in the musical, Mamma Mia (i.e. Under Attack), I like the cover of this song as much as the original, although the cover linked below is from the movie based on the musical based on the music. (How meta can you get?)

That Colin Firth sings it may possibly be its (and the movie-based-on-the-musical-based-on-the-music's) best redeeming feature.

Finally, the one song that I probably love most only and solely because of itself. There are no childhood memory associations, no rekindled interest because of a musical or movie reference. It is pure, unadulterated love for what some may consider an affront to their musical sensibilities and what I happily adore. You go listen to your emo infused, angst driven bleakness over there; I'll be happily gorging on this exquisite piece of cheese.
